A hard fought league match against a much improved Notts County Ladies side.
Northampton Town Ladies travelled to meet Notts County Women on Sunday November 11th.
With this fixture falling on Remembrance Sunday, both sides showed their respect with a two minute silence before kick off.
This was the third meeting between the two teams this season. The Cobblers first met Notts County Women in a game staged at the PTS Academy Stadium back in September, winning 6-2. Northampton Town then travelled to the New Market Ground for an away game a couple of weeks later for the first round of the East Midlands Women’s Regional League Cup, the Cobblers winning 9-2. Since this last meeting, Notts County were on an unbeaten run, while the Cobblers Ladies were unbeaten so far this season.
Eight minutes into the game, Alex Bartlett’s first time pass found Leah Stacey (pictured) and her quick turn opened up the space for a 20 yard shot which found the top corner of the net to open the scoring.
Chances were created by both sides as Notts County pushed for an equaliser, but the Cobblers extended their lead on 36 minutes. Leah Stacey’s corner found Francesca Speck at the back post who scored with a powerful header.
Unfortunately for Francesca, an injury forced the Cobblers into a substitution and on came Emma Billenness. Emma took only a matter of minutes to put her mark on the game, linking up with Sarah Marrison before Emma’s shot from the edge of the area beat the dive of the County keeper.
There were no goals in the second half as the Cobblers closed the win out. This was another good performance to keep the unbeaten run going and the team would again like to say thank you to the travelling supporters, especially the high five girls!
